Frequently Asked Questions

How does a Brewster's Bakery & Cafe® franchise differ from others?

Our franchisees manufacture the products they sell from low-cost raw materials.

What is the length of the franchise agreement?

Ten (10) years initially with renewal options under the then-current franchise agreement.

Will I have to pay an Initial Master Fee for the Development of a Country?

Yes. The Initial Master Fee is for the exclusive right to market the proprietary products throughout the country for all three trademarks and brands associated with BAB, Inc. The Initial Master Fee will be determined based upon the population statistics for the country with the minimum fee being $150,000 (USD).

How is the Initial Master Franchise Fee determined?

Master Franchise rights are determined from a number of different criteria: population, number of stores that can be opened, costs related to setting up country for operations, economic conditions, average per capita income, etc.

Do I need a Commissary?

No, if you build a large production store as we have in the U.S., you can avoid this cost. It should be noted that commissaries allow for manufacturing in lower cost locations. This strategy will be a function of how many stores you develop and the costs for occupancy for retail and manufacturing space.

Do I pay an ongoing royalty?

Yes. Royalty fees are subject to negotiation, but not anticipated to exceed 5% of gross receipts and are payable on a monthly basis.

Can I expect help in choosing and setting up a location?

Absolutely. An experienced field representative will be assigned to assist you in evaluating various locations in your area. Once you've made a decision, our team of design consultants will draw up a site plan that takes full advantage of the location you've chosen.

Will l or my employees receive training and start-up help?

Of course. We'll fully familiarize two people with every phase of the operation during our intensive training program. Then, our International team will be available to provide you with additional assistance at your store prior to and during your opening.

Do I need prior food service experience?

No. We will evaluate your past business success to insure that you have the necessary skills to execute our development strategy within your country. Having foodservice experience or multi unit retail experience will be most helpful, but is not absolute to the success of the operation.

What are the hours?

Since we are a Café concept, hours of operation will be consistent with other operations similar to us. Hours will also be determined based on location and a number of other local factors.

What size will my BAB store be?

For a production store we generally recommend between 1,500-1,800 sq. ft. We also have smaller non-production satellite and kiosk opportunities, which involve lower initial investments.

Is advertising support available?

Yes. Our in house staff will consult with you and your local advertising firm to create strategies to develop the market. All materials from the United States will be available to you.

Can I sell my BAB franchise?

Yes. However, we do reserve the right to approve the subsequent buyer.

Do I have to buy all my food products and production equipment from you?

We provide specifications for the purchase of these items. You may purchase most of your equipment from any approved or designated supplier. Brewster's® Coffee products must be purchased from a designated supplier.

Will I get assistance in the local sourcing of ingredients both food and paper?

Since the goal is to get you operating as quickly as we can, local sourcing is critical. We will help with local sourcing if our quality standards can be met.

Will you assist us in identifying local sources of food service equipment?

Again, this would be an objective, to ease the costs of importing food service equipment, provided the equipment is equal to or better than U.S. food service equipment.

Can I sub-franchise?

Absolutely! We can help you to develop an expansion strategy that might use business format franchising as a vehicle to grow.

Can I wholesale products to other retailers?

Again, this would be part of a comprehensive expansion strategy to establish and promote the products and the marks within your country.
